AM Batteries is actively seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to collaborate with a highly experienced team dedicated to industrializing the next generation of lithium-ion battery manufacturing technologies. The company is focused on positioning itself as an industry-leading turn-key equipment provider to battery cell manufacturers across the globe. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in mechanical design to a growing mechanical team whose focus is to support the development of pilot-scale technologies and drive industrialization to full-scale manufacturing equipment. The candidate will primarily support the team by developing mechanical designs from concept, through preliminary and prototyping phases, to detailed design and fabrication phases. The candidate is expected to have knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication techniques to support outsourced fabrication, as well as abilities in basic shop equipment and tools to support in-house builds and prototypes. The candidate will be an integral part of the management, release and change of CAD models and associated drawings. They will help refine and maintain the relevant processes controlling these activities.
Responsibilities
- Mechanical Design and Drafting: Work with other mechanical and development engineers to design the next generation of AM Batteries’ electrode manufacturing equipment. As part of this process, assist in the development and fabrication of Proof of Concept designs and prototypes. Build robust 3D models and convert to 2D drawings IAW AMSE Y14.5 standards.
- CAD File and Documentation Management: Refine and maintain existing CAD file/drawing management and release systems.
- Fabrication: Support fabrication of designs by interfacing with machine shops and fabricators. Provide assistance with in-house hands-on fabrication of R&D-based designs and prototypes using basic shop tools and joining techniques. Leverage rapid prototyping methods and materials such as 3D printing and extruded-aluminum framing.
- Support Projects: Contribute to the overall success of the company’s development initiatives. Collaborate with the team to provide support for various projects as needed, especially in mechanical aspects such as:
- Equipment Design
- Prototyping
- Facilities
- Packaging
- Requirements Tracking
Required Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Experience: 3+ Years (preferably 5+) of experience in an established engineering and design environment, experience with roll-to-roll manufacturing preferred
- Skills
- 3D CAD Software: Inventor (preferred), Solidworks, Creo
- Document Management: Release and Change Order/Notice (ECO, ECR, etc.)
- Design: GD&T, Tolerance Analysis, Basic Stress Analysis, Assembly Fit Checks, DFM, Material/Finish Selection
- Basic Shop Skills, for example: Drill Press, Band Saw, Grinder, Hand Tools, Basic Assembly
