JOB SUMMARY
Work with a fast-paced startup team that is transforming the battery industry. The Director of Business Development will focus on international business development and expand the Company’s knowledge of state-of-the-art battery development and manufacturing as well as business practices especially in Asia.
DESCRIPTION
The ideal candidate is an initiative-taking and action-oriented Director who can provide impactful support to customers and suppliers. The candidate must be able to build relationships that create substantial value for South 8 Technologies by accelerating our time to market and/or increasing revenue. The candidate will work directly with customers, partners, and suppliers to ensure their satisfaction and work closely with other employees to ensure customer and supplier questions or concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build effective relationships based on trust, and transparency with customers, partners, and suppliers
  • Leverage profound knowledge of world-leading battery company product and business development as well as decision-making processes to augment South 8 Technologies’ competencies in those areas
  • Continuously seek and acquire knowledge of the best practices in product and business development across the battery value chain
  • Rapidly and robustly qualify and prioritize, in accordance with senior management direction, new partner and customer prospects
  • Meet or exceed corporate strategic business objectives by expeditiously and effectively moving qualified prospects through the customer/partner acquisition process which shall include negotiating agreements
  • Formulation and execution of partnership, joint-development, and engineering agreements with battery ecosystem players (cell manufacturers, manufacturing equipment suppliers, automotive supply chain)
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain supply chain management strategies that increase the efficiency and speed of supply operations
  • Keep records of sales and other relationship data
  • Manage accounts from both our existing sales pipeline and new business opportunities
  • Manage input entry and maintenance of the Company’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Participate in the formation and execution of strategies based on data, trends, as well as knowledge of customers, products, and competitors

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university (technical degree preferred: electrical, chemical, systems engineering or related discipline)
  • In depth understanding of cylindrical Lithium-ion cell manufacturing processes, supplier qualification requirements (technical and business) as well as profound knowledge of terms and conditions for typical business transactions in battery manufacturer to supplier relationships
  • 10+ years of experience in battery supply chain, ideally in business development and product development roles
  • Extensive international experience including comprehensive experience with Asia / US transactions
  • Experience with product sales, technology licensing, joint development agreements and other strategic partner relationships
  • Effectively present information and respond promptly to requests from peers, managers, clients, customers, and partners
  • Exceptional ability to communicate and foster positive relationships
  • Accountability and personal organization are essential
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products as well as CRM systems
  • International travel

At the time of posting, the expected starting salary range for this role is $160,000.00 – $220,000.00 annually. The actual pay depends on multiple individualized factors, including education, job-related knowledge, experience, and skills, which will be assessed during the interview process. The comprehensive compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as health benefits, 401k, and company stock options. The base pay range and package is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
